I'm Nica Annette Rabinowitz: a natural dyer and textile artist. A beauty without intentions philosophy is at the heart of my garment making process. By emphasizing the process and craft through materiality I aim to support local economies and fiber farmers. By constantly questioning what it means to be sustainable, I inevitably see fashion as a system and see my process as a study in system design with textile as the foundation. By restricting myself to materials hand foraged and sourced directly from local farmers within a 150 mile radius, I aim to break down the gap between production and consumption. Climate change is a reality we can no longer disregard in the design, production and manufacturing process. Value systems and beauty standards need to shift to align with the people involved in the making of our garments as well as the planet that provides the resources. We must design from farm to garment.
