After months of planning and a successful kickstarter campaign, the gallery opening for the launch of SAORI Arts nyc took place this Friday. The exhibition is up all week at Tenri gallery. The garments made in collaboration with local designers and japanese weavers with disabilities are now documented in a beautiful lookbook. We used the drop cloth from my workshop series with the Green Eileen Design Incubator for the backdrop. This transformation from floor covering to work of art is a is a perfect example of beauty without intentions in the day-to-day as well as a new take on upcycling and what can be done with natural dyes.
Here is my collaborative garment. I was honored to be one of 15 designers. My piece is zero waste and attached through knot tying instead of traditional sewing. The weaving spoke to me and I responded.
