As a natural dyer I love to forage for mushrooms and plants as well as use food waste to create completely sustainable textiles. Dyeing in mass production is one of the most toxic (to the workers and the planet) as well as wasteful aspect of the textile manufacturing process. My work explores ways to reimagine this current dyeing process through ancient techniques. Mordanting with alum, vinegar, iron, and tannin to avoid toxic metals, my goal is to reconnect the wearer to the production process. It is important to expose the current problems while proposing sustainable alternatives.
